J.M. Coull, a full-service construction company specializing in construction management and design build project delivery, announced today that it has hired Thomas Dube as Vice President of the Pre-construction group. In response to the busiest year in J.M. Coull’s history, company management decided to add this position in order to enable J.M. Coull to offer a wider and more consistent range of pre-construction phase services while enabling its president to focus on long term business development and company growth.
Reporting to the president of the firm, Tom will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the activities required to develop, present and manage specific pre-construction assignments. In addition, he will oversee the growth and development of those who report to him directly, while maintaining a strong commitment to the J.M. Coull mission, its core values and the company goals.
Specializing in all aspects of the institutional market, Tom has a history of focusing on risk management, pre-construction planning, contract review and preparation, and project performance. He also brings a high level of experience in the day to day management of complex scholastic projects. Tom previously worked his way up through the ranks at Cutler Associates, headquartered in Worcester, Massachusetts, most recently holding the position of Director of Operations for the Scholastic division.
“Pre-construction activities are a key part of our corporate service offering – a critical phase to every construction project, in our opinion. In order to fully offer the depth of this resource to our clients, we knew we needed to hire someone whose primary focus is to keep this element of our business moving forward successfully,” said Andrew Coull, president of J.M. Coull. “We are very fortunate to have found Tom and to place him on our team. His skills, knowledge and instant credibility are exactly what we were looking for. Tom brings great value to the firm.”
Tom’s portfolio of completed projects includes: at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH a fast tracked dining hall renovation and expansion, a renovation of a 90+ year old dormitory style residence hall, and the construction of 2 new 6-story apartment style buildings; at Mt. Ida College in Newton, MA design build construction of new parking lot and 3 story pod style resident hall; at the University of Hartford in Hartford, CT design build construction of the new Hawk Hall residences, plaza upgrades, and site improvements ; and at Virginia Wesleyan College in Virginia Beach, VA design build construction services for a new 3 story apartment style residence hall and 8 townhouse style units plus required upgrades to the drainage and sewer systems.
“J.M. Coull has a reputation for excellence in construction and pre-construction management, a high standard of customer service, and excellent employee relations,” said Dube. “I’m looking forward to bringing my experience in preconstruction management and the higher education market to the established skill set already here at J.M. Coull.”
Tom is the immediate past president of the Board of Trustees for Dynamy, Inc., a non-profit educational organization located in Worcester, Massachusetts. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors for the Associated Builders and Contractors of Massachusetts, and the founding chairman of the Young Leaders Council for the organization. Tom is a former recipient of Building Design & Construction’s Top 40 under 40 award, has written articles appearing in numerous publications, and is a 1995 graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. |
