Three executives at J.M. Coull, Inc. have earned LEED accreditation, the company announced today. Andrew Coull, president, Thomas Dube, vice president for preconstruction, and Thomas Zabel, senior business development executive, achieved the LEED Accredited Professional designation offered by the U.S. Green Building Council, which administers a rating system that measures the environmental sustainability of buildings and construction projects.
The executives’ pursuit of LEED accreditation reflects the company’s commitment to using methods and materials designed to protect the environment wherever it is feasible within the building owner’s goals for the project, according to Coull. The education associated with the accreditation process enables the firm to advise clients as to options for minimizing their building project’s effect on the environment.
“For example, we work with a lot of clients in the high tech industry who have specific performance requirements that may involve high energy usage,” said Coull. “If we can work with them to find more efficient ways of meeting their requirements, then, not only do we reduce the carbon footprint of the building, but the client also reaps the savings in energy costs. It’s a win-win.”
Tom Dube, who has also been accredited, says the sustainable approach dovetails with the company’s preconstruction program known as StartSmartTM, which focuses on comprehensive planning early in the life of the project.
“The sustainable concept needs to be integrated into the planning from day one,” said Dube. “That’s what we’re doing with StartSmart.”
